John Sumner was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.  He is a graduate of the College of Arts and Crafts with an MFA in sculpture.  He lives in Glen Ellen, California with his wife Della and their many, (many) cats; all rescue cases and spayed of course.  

 John works in a number of mediums including acrylic, gouache and oil paint. His discovery of oil stick further increased his pleasure of doing animal interpretations because of the physical nature of the medium.  One that combines drawing, painting and etching—and hey, it’s nice and messy.

Always itching for new creative directions, combined with his background in sculpture led John to the wacky painted metal critters he began making in the late nineties.  These metal pieces are a wonderful combination of his many artistic abilities, some of which haven’t been mentioned.  More could be said, but enough is enough already.
